Premier full-service Garden City law firm, Jaspan Schlesinger, LLP, has announced that the attorneys of prominent Suffern law firm, Lexow, Berbit & Associates, P.C., have joined the firm in a move that will expand Jaspan Schlesinger’s geographic footprint into Rockland and Westchester counties, specifically in the Education Law, Municipal Law and Real Estate practice areas. The Lexow, Berbit & Associates attorneys will continue to work at 56 Park Avenue in Suffern, New York, led by Warren E. Berbit, Esq.
Mr. Berbit, who focuses on Education and Municipal Law, has individually been General Counsel to the Clarkstown Central School District since 1978, following his predecessors at Lexow, Berbit who had served in that role for decades. He has litigated numerous matters before the Commissioner of Education, Public Employment Relations Board, New York State Division of Human Rights, New York Supreme Courts, Appellate Divisions and the Court of Appeals, U.S. District Courts, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Berbit has lectured on a wide variety of topics affecting school districts. He is the recipient of the 2012 Certificate of Public Service by the NYS Conference of Mayors and Public Officials in conjunction with service as Village Attorney of Montebello since its inception in 1986, and in recognition for which the Village named a Nature Preserve in Mr. Berbit’s honor. The Rockland Bar Association bestowed the Balsamo Award upon Mr. Berbit in recognition of a lifetime of legal service with distinction, and appointed him to serve on the Judicial Screening Committee. He is also Vice President and elected Director of the Suffern Free Library, and is a Director of the Legal Aid Society.
