Andrew M. Mahony is the Chair of the firm’s Tax Certiorari and Condemnation Practice Group. He represents both private and public clients in matters concerning real estate taxation and eminent domain proceedings. His municipal clients include the Towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead, Wallkill and Warwick, the Greenburgh Central School District, several Nassau County school, water and fire districts, and the Village of Patchogue.

Experience

  • Successfully defended the Towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead in a series of lawsuits filed by large commercial property owners and public utility companies challenging the legality of ad valorem levies funding the Town's garbage collection and disposal districts.
  • Defended tax challenges filed against the Village of Patchogue.
  • Represented the Village of Patchogue in the revitalization of its downtown and waterfront areas via the use of eminent domain proceedings.
  • Acted as counsel to the Assessor of the Town of Wallkill defending assessments of major commercial properties, including the Pyramid Mall in Wallkill.
  • Successfully moved to dismiss lawsuits aimed at forcing special districts to pay tax refunds in Nassau county.
